Kate Ashfield was born in 1972 in Oldham, Lancashire, England, UK. She attended school at King Edwards Five Ways, then graduated from Rose Bruford College in 1993.

She has made a name for herself on the stage, appearing in such productions as Closer at the Lyric Theatre, Woyzeck at the Gate Theatre, The Positive Hour, Peaches, Blasted, Shopping and F***ing, and Three Sisters/The Break of Day, all at the Royal Court Theatre. She has also appeared on the Out of Joint Tour.

Her television credits include: Episode One of the BBC series “Fist of Fun” (1995), the mini-series “No Bananas” in which she played the role of Sylvia (1996), the Carlton television series “Soldier Soldier” in which she played the role of Cate Hobbs (1996), the television movie A Many Splintered Thing in the role of Elly Jackson (1998), the animated television series “Watership Down” in which she voiced the character of Primrose (1999), the television movie The Man in which she played the role of Kim (1999), the Channel 4 series “Love in the 21st Century” in the role of Kate (1999), the BBC series Storm Damage in the role of Kay (2000), the series “A Many Splintered Thing” as Elly Rawsthorne (2000), the mini-series “Do or Die” as Samantha (2001), Crime and Punishment as Dounias (2002), the television movie Pollyanna in the role of Nancy (2003), This Little Life in the role of Sadie Macgregor (2003- for which she received a B.I.F.A. nomination for Best Actress), the television movie Killing Hitler in the role of Rachel (2003), Perfect Day in the part of Jenny (2005), Secret Smile as Miranda Cotton (2005), and the television movie The Aftermath (2006).

Kate has also made her mark in the world of feature films, breaking onto the scene as Ella in the 1994 movie Princess Caraboo. Best Actress Award), The Last Minute in the role of Janey (2001), One Eyed Jacques (2001), Pure in the role of Helen (2002), Flyfishing in the role of Helen (2002), Perfect in the role of Rachel (2003), The Trouble With Men and Women in the part of Susie (2003), Collusion as Sally Waterville (2003), co-starring with Clive Owen and Angelina Jolie in Beyond Borders as Kat (2003), Fakers as Eve Evans (2004), co-starring with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in Shaun of the Dead as Liz (2004), Spivs in the role of Jenny (2004), The Best Man as Becka (2005), and co-starring with Damian Lewis and Michael Gambon in the upcoming film The Baker in the role of Rhiannon (2007).

In 2001, Kate was named as one of European films’ Shooting Stars by European Film Promotion.

She currently lives in London and is represented by the agency of Peters, Fraser, and Dunlop, who also represent Keira Knightley and Kate Winslet.
